Galloping Gertie 1940 and Tacoma Narrows Bridges 1950 & 2007
See more at www.tacomanarrowsbridge.org This film shows actual remains of the 1940 Tacoma, Washington Narrows bridge that collapsed, as well as the existing 1950 Sturdy Gertie replacement bridge, and the new 2007 Naroows bridge under construction. The film was shot from various locations under & around the bridges. The noise in the background is the TNC workers grinding rough edges down prior to painting. The video starts on the Gig Harbor shore and shows the 1950 bridge & 2007 bridge being worked on. The shots of concrete & wire on the shore are actual pieces of Galloping Gertie after it was torn down. Then the video carries up & underneath the 1950 bridge, panning over to the 2007 bridge. The video finishes with some panoramic views of both bridges taken from the Narrows Park shore. At the video end is the original 1950 utility buildings from the Tacoma side on the old bridge. These shots are no longer possible, as the flow of traffic has been reversed, so that nobody drives from the Gig Harbor side towards the Tacoma side on the old bridge anymore. All lanes on the old bridge now travel from Tacoma to Gig Harbor, and all lanes on the new 2007 bridge travel from Gig Harbor to Tacoma.
