I drove 400 miles out to Ames, IA in October to visit friends and take a railroading journey to remember. The first day I was out there the weather did not cooperate much, but that did not stop me from seeing one of the last remaining operating electric freight railroads in the United States, and the last remaining weekend of the ICE in Mason City, Iowa. The next day (Sat) was sunny and warm, and I spent the day on a very active UP Mainline in Ames, IA and Boone, IA seeing attractions like massive grain elevators and the Kate Shelley High Bridge were a Concrete bypass bridge is currently under construction. Later i would take a ride on the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad for their first time ever night photo steam run. When I returned to Boone after on awesome trip on the BSVRR I stayed in boone to get some night shots, and even learn a little about night flash photography from a fellow railfan from South Dakota. On Sunday, I packed it up and started to head for home Via the UP mainline east through towns such as Nevada,Ia and Marshalltown, Ia. Overall my trip was fun, I got some killer shots of many varieties of engines in all three of the major groups, Electric, Steam, and Diesel locomotives.
