Shows some of the bridges that were tested during the 2009 Regional Bridge Building Contest held in Herman Hall at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) on Feb 10 2009. The bridges can have a mass of no more than 30 grams or just over an ounce. The wood must be purchased from IIT. The most mass supported was 85 Kg which corresponds to almost 200 pounds in weight. Bridges are judged on efficiency which is determined from the max mass it can support divided by the mass of the bridge. About 160 students from high schools all over the Chicago area participated in this event.
